Five Great Reasons to be in Halifax this Weekend

What a fantistic weekend to be in the city.  There are many reasons to be in Halifax during the summer and here are my top five for this weekend…

1. The Country Rockfest at the Halifax Commons concert site.  Friday and Saturday enjoy great country acts including Nova Scotia’s own George Canyon, Johnnie Reid, Kevin Costner & Modern West and Alan Jackson.

2. The new Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market opens on Saturday morning (7 am – 1 pm).  This building is amazing and extremely environmentally friendly (see my May 17, 2010 blog post).  The new location of the Halifax Farmers’ Market is directly behind the Westin Nova Scotian and next to Pier 21.  I am really looking forward to experiencing this new Halifax market.

3. The Halifax International Busker Festival opened last night and runs to August 15.  There are 5 downtown outdoor locations to watch a variety of street theatre including acrobatics, music, visual arts, comedy and fire shows.

4. The weather this weekend will be warm and sunny!  August really is our best month to experience the summer in Halifax.  Today we are expecting to reach 27C, Saturday and Sunday 22C…grab your sun screen and get outside for a walk along the harbourfront boardwalk.

5. After your walk downtown you’ll be ready for a cold beer on a patio.  There are a lot of great patios along Spring Garden Road and Argyle Street.  Don’t forget Eve’s new deck at the Westin – the patio furniture has arrived, come try it out.

Next weekend (Aug. 13 & 14) our backyard will be hoppin’ again with the Halifax Seaport Beerfest, taking place on the harbourfront directly behind the Westin.
