Beer & Beethoven

I was asked to volunteer at one of Symphony Nova Scotia’s favourite fund raising events on Friday night and am so glad I did.  Beer & Beethoven has been taking place in Halifax for several years and is held at a casual venue.  The event draws a crowd of atypical symphony goers who are treated to a smattering of traditional and not so traditional musical numbers.

This year Beer & Beethoven wrapped up the 25th anniversary season of Symphony Nova Scotia and took place in the Drill Hall of Canadian Forces Base Halifax.   Set one consisted of classical favourites starting with Beethoven’s 5th and ending with silk painter Holly Carr painting an original piece of art for the raffle draw during the performance.  Through set two we were treated to special guests the Stadacona Band and local television personality Liz Rigney performing songs from WW II.  The Symphony and Stadacona Band joined forces for set three with several medleys including Brazillian, Maritime and Newfoundland favourites.

“Beer & Beethoven isn’t just a performance – it’s a lively social event where mingling and chatting is part of the fun. While the orchestra plays, audience members relax around tables with friends and socialize at the bar.”
